Today we welcomed Flip the Miniature Australian Shepard to the pack. She is such a gorgeous dog!
The first dog hike can be a little hard on a pup. This strange person comes and takes you away from your person, then puts you in the back of a truck to take you who knows where. (Or at least that’s what I think is going through a dog’s mind). It’s the one time I wish I could speak dog; to let them know they don’t need to worry, we’re just going to go have a great time in the woods.
We hiked at Cypress Falls today. I’ve been hiking there quite a bit lately. It’s closer to the ocean than the other spots I hike at. So it has a tendency to get a little less snow (ocean keeps the temperature just those few degrees warmer). After my hike with Zoe and Minnie in sticky snow, I’ve been mindful of the depth. We did check out the viewpoint ever so briefly. Too windy! Zoe nearly gets blown away!
Ever the explorer, we were trying to find a path to the Trans Canada Trail. We had to turn around after Zoe started to collect snowballs again. We were having a hard time following the trail in the snow anyway. We hiked 8.5 Km! Everyone will sleep well tonight.

All in all it was a great first trip for Flip! She wanted to play with Zoe. She’ll need to stay on leash a few more times to make sure she gets the hang of our adventures. I think she’ll really enjoy next time now that she knows I’m just there to take her for a walk in the woods then bring her home.
Until next time
