On Thursday September 17 we had a fun pack and a rainy day. Our pack included Winston the Aussiedoodle, Nyssa the Husky / Malamute, Petey the American Bulldog, Rosie the Duck Toller and Noah the Labradoodle. We headed to Ballentree Park to enjoy the day.
Winston has been working on his manners. Some days he’s really good, some days he has a hard time settling down and focusing. Today was a good day. After being on leash for the first bit, we were able to drop the leash and he was playing nicely with his friends. No nibbling. A few attempts, but he listened to my calls of “gentle”. It helped that he had a nice mellow pack to hike with.
Nyssa is our dignified lady. She gets really excited when we pick her up, but once we’re in the forest it’s down to the business of exploring. She doesn’t put up with roughhousing, though she will join in the odd game of chase.
Noah the Labradoodle is an easy going guy, he usually joins us on Mondays though he joined our Thursday pack as Monday was going to be a really small group. He took his new packmates in stride, joining Petey, Winston and Nyssa in a few games of chase.
Petey is doing really well on our hikes. His little tail stub wiggles with happiness when he gets picked up and when he gets his one on one snuggle during our break. We still keep him muzzled but he listens really well. He’s been gentle a good ambassador for other dogs in the pack. Playing with them, but toning it down when I call out gentle.
Miss Rosie has been doing really well. She’s only been on a handful of new walks and is a bit shy. She relaxed a bit with this group and would run up the trail with them (especially when we were on the way home).
All in all we had a great hike.
