Wednesday was a fun walk. Along for the adventure was Logan the Goldendoodle, Nila the Desi Dog, Pippa the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Sally the Wheaten Terrier and Winston the Yellow Labrador Retriever. It was Winston’s second walk with Wagging Trails. With the exception of Logan, it was a new pack for Winston. He is getting along with all of our doggy friends really well.
It was a young and energetic pack. Lots of running around and playing in the snow. Pippa decided that it was best to let the young dogs burn off some energy before she engaged with them. She hung out with me while the young ones played, getting extra pats along the way.
Logan and Winston played their game of stick tug again. Although we had to put a few limits on it. We like to encourage responsible stick playing on our adventures. Finding a stick to take with you on the trail is one thing, trying to drag a tree along is another. They’re both good boys and were able to play a civilized game of tug once we redefined what a “stick” is.
Sally is the dog that enjoys being in the snow the most! She literally wiggled her way into my lap in a moment of snow enjoyment.
When we’re walking in fresh snow, I’ll sometimes reach down, take a handful of snow and start to eat it. It brings me back to being a kid in the snowy prairies. Nila saw me do this and came over to investigate. I held it out and she took a nibble, then a second. She loves it! After that, whenever she saw me grab a handful of snow, she would come over to get a bite. It’s pretty cute.
As I said, all in all it was a fun walk!
