On Tuesday we introduced Maddy the Hound Shepherd Mix to adventuring Wagging Trails Style.
The first adventure can be a little tough on dogs. They’re not sure why I’m taking them from their nice home. Maddy was a real trooper. Though she was a little unsure she jumped right in the truck and away we went.
We started our hike at Ballentree Park in West Vancouver. First timers go through a bit of a routine before they’re let off leash. First we walk leashed together, then leash drop, then off leash. This process allows us to get to know one another and helps prevent runaways.
I was able to drop the leash with Maddy really quickly. She’s an attentive dog and made sure I was close by. But she was still a touch unsure so she dragged the leash behind her for the first while. But as we put more ground beneath our feet I could see her relax more and more as she ‘got’ why I was there. ‘Oh, we’re just out to walk’
Once she was off leash she ran and ran! I think she may like this adventuring thing. We’re happy to have you Maddy!
