Areas Normally Not Explored

On Tuesday August 4 the dry sunny weather continued in Vancouver. Our pack for the day included Nyssa the Husky / Malamute, Karma the Desi Dog, Petey the American Bulldog and Drift the Border Collie. We headed to our usual summer trail, Millstream Park, to start our hike and enjoy the trails.

To mix things up a bit we headed to Brothers Creek. Normally Brothers Creek is full of water. In the winter, when there is a lot of rain we will often avoid this creek as it can be bursting at the seams. In the wet season I definitely don’t let the dogs go down to the waters edge, just in case they get caught in the current. Today however, we went down to the creek bed for the first time ever at this particular spot. There has been so little rain and the water levels are so low there was no chance the dogs would get swept downstream. Keep an eye out around the 43 second mark. Note the big trees downstream of the bridge. Those were swept down there by creek when the water is high. Pretty incredible the difference this year.

The dogs were unconcerned about water levels. They were just happy to be out exploring! Karma is getting more and more outgoing with this group. She even played a round or two of chase with Petey! Nyssa loved exploring. She was rather picturesque as she wandered among the trees. Petey was happy to have a few dogs to play chase with, though usually he was up front making sure he was the first to find all the good stuff. Drift had a great time flirting with Karma. He’s really cute as he tries to get her to play with him. When his advances aren’t appreciated he shows off. Particularly how good he is at digging. I think Karma likes all the attention, she’s just playing hard to get.

All in all it was a great hike. Check out our Instagram account for a few more clips and photos of todays hike!
