On Tuesday March 24 we had a full pack that included Winston the Aussiedoodle, Petey the American Bulldog, Nyssa the Husky / Malamute, Drift the Border Collie and Karma the Desi Dog.
It was a misty day and we stayed mostly dry. Nyssa our newest pack member is settling right in with the pack. She wanders through the forest with an easy pace and a big smile. Karma hung back a little bit with all the new dogs and excitement. Though by the end she was right in the middle of the pack.
Winston is getting better with his off leash manners. Though he still needed a bit of time on leash to bring his energy level down. Of course it doesn’t help when Drift plays instigator, getting Winston excited. But it’s good training for Winston. He needs to be able to listen to his people, even when there is really exciting stuff happening around him. Sometimes they’re trying to help him, not just get in the way of his fun. Ah pups we love them.
Then poor Petey. He’s really worked his way into my heart. He’s a real softie who loves cuddles. But unfortunately he still doesn’t like all strangers. We’ve been trying to fit a muzzle for him. But have been having a tough time finding one that doesn’t rub his nose raw. Towards the end of the walk the muzzle was just unbearable for him. So that means he needs to be on leash with me while it heals. It’s too bad in a way because he’s really fun in the forest and watching him leap over logs and crash through the bush is pretty incredible. We’ll find a way for him to be off leash safely.
All in all it was a great walk. We’re looking forward to the next one.
